Dale Pappas stoking the salt chamber. This is one
of the side stoking
holes in the catenary arch, at the top of the kiln. Exhaust gasses
from
the Anagama chamber flow through the catenary arch, preheating it to
2200 F or more. As we quit stoking the Anagama, we move uphill to the
salt chamber. It then takes two more hours to achive top temperature,
about 2350. This was a way for us to increase the kiln's capacity,
with
minimal extra work.
